Year ends on winning note

The First XV’s last fixture of 2023 saw the team record an 18-11 victory over Strathendrick at Coats Park. Two tries from Louis Senter, another try from Adam Hunter – and a Jay McGuffie penalty – were enough to ensure the points stayed at home.

The victory also means that the ‘Lang end their league campaign for the year at the top of West Division 2. The boys are not back in action until January 13 when they travel to play Paisley.

Enjoy the break … and we hope to see you at a Coats Park game in the New Year.

Last game of 2023

The First XV bring the curtain down on their games in 2023 with the visit of Strathendrick to Coats Park on Saturday, December 16.

It’s a big game which gives the boys a chance to bounce back from last week’s disappointment and make sure they finish the year at the top of the league.

The on-field action starts at 2pm, but you can enjoy a pre-match refreshment from Noon. And the bar will also be open after the match for (hopefully) a celebratory drink or two.

Why not come along and support the team, as well as enjoying a good afternoon. It’s an ideal way to start your Festive celebrations.

Bad day on the road

Our winning run came to a disappointing end when the First XV crashed to a 39-15 defeat away to Carrick.

It’s the first time this season the team has come away from a game with no points, and the only consolation is that we are still top of the league, although Bishopton can hit the top if they win their postponed matches.

Meanwhile the team have been drawn away to Paisley or Dalziel in the 2nd round of the National Shield having got a bye in the first round. That tie will take place on Saturday, February 17 next year.

Five in a row

The First XV notched up their fifth victory on the bounce to strengthen their position at the top of League 2. The boys ran out 43-13 winners against Clydebank at Coats Park, with Louis Senter grabbing three of the seven tries. There is no league fixture this weekend and the next outing for the boys will be on November 25 when the team travels to face Cumbernauld.

Happy Days for ‘Lang

The First XV edged a thriller at Coats Park, beating Uddingston 34-31. The result keeps the ‘Lang top of the pile in Division 2.

It was a good day off the field as well, as the special lunch to celebrate the club’s 120th birthday was also a great success.

Next up for the First XV is another home game on Saturday (November 11) when Clydebank are the visitors. Kick-off is at 2pm – your support would be much appreciated.

Last-gasp bonus for ‘Lang

The First XV scored a fourth try with the last play of their match against Waysiders to secure another victory on the road. The boys ran out 24-14 winners to retain their place at the top of West League 2. Next up for the boys is a home clash against Uddingston on November 4. This one kicks-off at 2pm so why not come along and support the team

Two in a row for ‘Lang

Two in a row for First XV

The First XV made it two wins on the bounce when they returned from the game against Lomond & Helensburgh with a bonus point win. The boys raced into a 26-0 lead before having to survive a spirited fightback from their hosts and run out 26-21 winners. The tries came from Gregg Oehme, Seamus Magennis, Alan Henderson and Callum McLure, with Andy Greenen landing three conversions.
